Acker Visiting Scholar: Honorable Margaret A. Ryan

The Honorable Margaret A. Ryan, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and former clerk for Associate U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, will speak on Wednesday, March 4, 7:00pm, in Bruno Great Hall in Norton Campus Center.
Judge Ryan is speaking as the William M. Acker, Jr., Visiting Scholar, a program made possible by BSC alum and Federal Judge William M. Acker, Jr. Ryan will present her talk, titled "Oh, the Places You'll Go," and will share her views on how to succeed in law and in life. She will also share her experiences as a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (the military equivalent of the Supreme Court), a partner in private litigation firms, and a law clerk for the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
The William M. Acker, Jr. Visiting Scholar Program invites distinguished leaders to promote the study and appreciation of the American Republic by speaking with BSC students, faculty and alumni and promoting lively debate. The program is funded by an endowed gift from the Hon. William M. Acker, Jr., BSC Class of 1949, who currently serves as a Senior United States District Judge of the District Court for the Northern District of Alabama.
This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Kickstarter & Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age

Christopher Cage '10, founder of Greenbelly LLC, will present "Kickstarter and Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age" on March 10 at 11 a.m. in Norton Theater. He will discuss how to run and prepare a Kickstarter campaign as well as why now is the best time in history to start a business. Cage will launch his own company's Kickstarter campaign on March 3 and will offer his insights about how Kickstarter is changing new business launches: low barrier to entry, demise of brick and mortar, and the power of social media.
